Connie Dwyer Breast Center Set to Open at Trinitas

In light of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Connie Dwyer, a known philanthropist, will be opening her second Breast Center in early October. The Center is located at the main campus of Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth

Just last year, we had the pleasure of previewing the new Breast Center at Trinitas while gaining a great understanding of Connie’s reasoning behind starting the Connie Dwyer Breast Cancer Foundation. Connie herself suffered from breast cancer, which was life changing for her. She was first diagnosed in 1999 and had a double mastectomy. Her own battle caused her to become mindful of the other women out there fighting breast cancer, especially those who come from low-income backgrounds. She feels that EVERY woman who has breast cancer should be able to tell their story just like she has. She believes that they should not be denied proper care due to certain circumstances.

Often times, women from disadvantaged backgrounds do not have access to the services needed to treat breast cancer, and therefore their stories are never heard. They don’t even have the option to help themselves. This is why the Connie Dwyer Breast Cancer Foundation specifically helps women in need, ensuring that they are receiving the proper care. This includes screening, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as, community outreach and education programs. The Breast Center is state of the art, with innovative technology such as 3D imaging, and highly qualified, bilingual specialists.

Connie Dwyer’s story is one of determination, bravery, and resilience. Because of her, hundreds, even millions of women will be able to share their journeys and battles with the world, encouraging even more to step up and help others who are in need. We are so excited to see the finished Breast Center next month and even more excited about the fact that more and more women will be able to receive assistance.

#GivingTuesday with the Connie Dwyer Breast Center

Tomorrow is  #GivingTuesday and the perfect opportunity to give after winding down from a holiday weekend (right before diving into, let’s be honest, a holiday month!) Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth is still collecting donations for their newest addition, The Connie Dwyer Breast Center, in order to best serve the people that come through their doors to fight breast cancer, no matter their finances.

Patients of the breast center love the care they receive from every member of the staff, saying “from the doctors, to the nurses, to the techs, everyone is just amazing.”

To those suffering from breast cancer, and even those with loved ones suffering, the right care and sensitivity is paramount when trying to overcome this illness. The opening of The Connie Dwyer Breast Center at Trinitas will bring genuine kindness and excellent medical care to more patients in need than ever before.

As you make plans with your family to travel or stay in, perhaps making gingerbread houses or spending the day decorating your home for the holidays, spare a few minutes to donate this #GivingTuesday, because for so many people, your generosity means no less than the world.

Gary S. Horan Emergency Department

Introducing the Gary S. Horan Emergency Department

Last November, #HipNJ embarked on a special “Giving Tuesday” campaign to raise money and awareness for Trinitas Regional Medical Center‘s Emergency Department expansion. Ten months later, we are proud to unveil the brand new, $18.7 million Gary S. Horan Emergency Department!

On September 12th, #HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino attended the ED’s dedication ceremony. The rooftop gala was attended by the hospital’s generous supporters and compassionate staff members that were so instrumental in helping raise funds for this much-needed expansion. Notable attendees included Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, Union County Sheriff Joseph Cryan, and Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and Vice Chair, Trinitas Sister Rosemary Moynihan.

“Today really is a milestone that we have finished our Emergency Department. One-hundred percent has funded by donors, and we’re very thankful to each and every one of them for doing so much for us,” said Nadine Brechner, Vice President, Chief Development Officer at Trinitas Regional Medical Center.

The 24,000 square foot Emergency Department expansion raises the number of treatment beds from 27 to 45, and provides separate treatment areas where the most appropriate care can be given to seniors, families and behavioral patients. The department is outfitted in the latest medical technology, including a 128-slice CT scanner that can produce diagnostic scans in seconds.
