Tariq Trotter of “The Roots” Explains Success on “The Tonight Show”

Front man of The Roots and New Jersey’s own Tariq Trotter sat down with Steve Adubato on “One-on-One” to discuss why The Roots is the ideal band for “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” as well as his nonprofit, GrassROOTS Community Foundation.

Trotter speaks about his daily gig with Jimmy Fallon. “It’s a blessing. It is a wonderful gift that allows us to interact with the artists that we have always idolized,” he states.

The Roots seems to be the perfect fit for “The Tonight Show.” “We occupy a very unique place in pop culture,” Trotter says. “We’ve always been recognized as the glue that holds together all these different worlds.”

What’s something about Jimmy Fallon that we may not know? “Jimmy is the nicest person in show business that I have interacted with.” Trotter has been in the business for some time, and says that Fallon has always come from a sincere place.

Trotter created GrassROOTS Community Foundation, a nonprofit to service communities in both New Jersey and Philadelphia to promote the health of women and girls.

The Roots transcend age and genre, and continue to do so every night on “The Tonight Show.” To learn more about them, head over to their website. To learn more about GrassROOTS Community Foundation, click here.
