The Corporate Diwali Brings Diwali to the US

Manisha Mundhra Beriwala, founder of The Corporate Diwali, met with #HipNJ’s Maria Falzo to discuss how her company is bringing Diwali to the United States.

Beriwala created TCD 15 years ago. Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a Hindu holiday that has been celebrated in India for hundreds of years. TCD’s website describes Diwali as a holiday “where family and friends would gather and share home-made meals and treats, don elegant outfits and participate in religious rituals to welcome Goddess Lakshmi into their lives.”

When Beriwala moved to the United States with her husband, she felt isolated. She wanted to bring a part of her old home and customs into her new home.

“I feel like I’m representing so many immigrants right now who feel, you know, a void,” Beriwala said. “You know, who want to go back to their homes but feel this is their home now.”

TCD was created to fill that void and increase diversity. The company organizes events; one of its first events was the Gold Diwali Gala. TCD hopes that Diwali will gain the same recognition as other holidays; Beriwala hopes that Diwali will become a holiday anyone can enjoy.

“I feel Diwali is – as much as it’s yours as it’s mine, so the more we share it, the more we celebrate it, the more goodness we bring in this world,” Beriwala said.

Visit TCD’s website to learn about their upcoming events. You can also follow them on Instagram (@thecorporatediwali) and Facebook (thecorporatediwali). You can also follow Beriwala on her personal Instagram (@manishamundhraberiwala).
