‘This Is Us’ Creator Dan Fogelman

Unless you have been in hibernation for the past six months, you have heard of the NBC hit, This Is Us.

This Is Us has viewers of all ages addicted. This “dramedy” focuses around the Pearson family throughout three different points of their lives. It pulls on your heartstrings like no other show on television. The show’s genius orchestrator is none other than New Jersey’s own, Dan Fogelman.

Fogelman hails from River Vale. He attended Pascack Valley High School in Hillsdale, and has been a screenwriter since 2003. He has executive produced every television show that he has been a part of, and is also a well-established movie writer. Some of  his biggest hits on the big screen have been Cars, Crazy, Stupid, Love, and The Guilt Trip. Fogelman’s television successes include GalavantGrandfathered, Pitch, and now, This Is Us.

Fogelman projects some of his New Jersey experiences onto the screen. The only adopted sibling of the Pearson family, Randall Pearson (played by Sterling K. Brown), lives in an unnamed area of the Garden State nicknamed. This area is nicknamed “McMansion,” as it is a wealthier northern area of Jersey that could very well resemble his hometown of River Vale.

Randall’s estranged father on the show is played by Paterson native Ron Cephas Jones. Jones graduated from JFK High School in Paterson, and later graduated from Ramapo College in Mahwah. Jones has also been featured in USA network’s Mr. Robot and Netflix’s Luke Cage.
