Vanessa Coppes, editor-in-chief of BELLA Magazine, met with #HipNJ’s Maria Falzo to discuss the magazine’s relaunch.
Coppes moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic in 2006. She’s wanted to join the magazine business ever since she was a teenager. Prior to joining BELLA Magazine, she worked at Aldo Shoes, and she had her own blog.
Coppes’ career at BELLA Magazine began when her own line of costume jewelry was featured in the magazine in 2009. She then became the marketing director and the digital social strategist. Coppes purchased the magazine in 2019 and created BELLA Media + Co.
“When the opportunity came to take ownership of it, I knew that I could just redirect it in, you know, the direction that it’s headed,” Coppes said. “Not because I’m doing anything better, but I feel like there were a lot of little things that just could improve upon, especially upon the talent that we were highlighting, the stories we were telling.”
Coppes is using BELLA Magazine to tell “real stories” about “real women.” She’s highlighting mothers and entrepreneurs who are “kicking butt.”
Coppes will be one of the panelists at the Bloomingdale’s Mom Boss event, which is scheduled for May 6. Coppes looks forward to encouraging other mothers and entrepreneurs.
“The gift that I always hope that I give others is that, you know, if I can do it, you can do it, despite motherhood, despite everything else that you may have going on,” Coppes said.
