Ways to Keep Your Kids Active This Summer

Ways to Keep Your Kids Active This Summer

It can be a challenge as a parent to tear your kids away from the TV, computer screens and other electronic devices, but it’s important to make sure they do not have too much screen time. While kids spending time playing video games, watching cartoons, etc., isn’t a bad thing, playing outside and getting some physical activity into their daily routine is essential for their well-being. If you’re trying to find ways you can help to keep your kids active this summer, here are some suggestions that might help.

Go Hiking
Whether it’s just a day trip or you decide to take them camping for the weekend, escaping into the great outdoors is a great way to get your kids excited about nature. With stunning landscapes and winding trails, inspire a sense of adventure in your kids by taking them on a few hiking excursions this summer. It’s great for you and your kids to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the calming influence of nature.

Swimming
On a hot day, taking a dip in the pool is a wonderful way to cool off. If you’re lucky enough to have a swimming pool in your back yard, your kids might already be keen to jump in a splash around with their friends. If not, take them to your local pool or waterpark for the afternoon for some fun. If your children are still quite young, take advantage of the summer vacation and enroll them in swimming lessons to help boost their confidence in the water and teach them a valuable life skill.

Ping-Pong
Your kids are certain to love this fun game and want to play over and over again. It’s perfect for the whole family to get together, and perhaps you could inject some healthy competition into the mix and start a tournament? Your local recreational center might have some ping-pong tables set up, or you could purchase one for your family to use at home. Make sure you invest in good paddles and stock up on plenty of balls! For top-quality, check out some of the best ping pong balls on the market right now.

Plan a Scavenger Hunt
Scavengers hunts are so much fun, and kids love to work out the clues and discover the treasure at the end. It’s a good way for you to get creative and think of some riddles. If you wanted to go all out, you could even have a theme, like a pirate’s island, and make an old-fashioned treasure map. It’s easy enough to get your hands on some small prizes, and this could keep them entertained for hours.

Soccer
A classic game to play outdoors during the summer is, of course, soccer. If your kids are already fans of the game, they are sure to want to run around outside with the ball. You don’t have to take the game too seriously, but it’s a brilliant way to get them up and running about.

It’s fine to let your kids watch TV shows and play computer games, but make sure they’re not missing out on the joys of playing outside and staying active. Use some of these suggestions to encourage them to get up and go!
