The scorching heat and rainy days have finally moved past the Garden State, welcoming bright and colorful events for our #HipNJ weekend recap!
Heading down to Ocean County this past Saturday, you might have seen a multitude of colors gliding through the sky! The Kites, Crafts & Cones Festival this weekend at the Ortley beach boardwalk on 3rd avenue.
The event hosted local artisans and crafters displaying their homemade items for sale, free face painting, and live music featuring Ortley Beach’s own Lefty Southpaw. Vendors with hot foods were also available for the hungry beach goers!
Towards the end of the evening, is where large-scale professional kites flew on the beach, welcoming participants to fly their own kites as well! Some kites included a giant dragon, sea critters, a variety of birds and more!
The festival was started by the Friends of Ortley Beach, a group that formed after superstorm Sandy, to bring together artistic, cultural and historic activities to the community.
This Wednesday kicked off the 45th annual Monmouth County fair, held at the East Freehold showgrounds. The fair had a five-day run, ending on Sunday. Activities included a huge petting zoo with various farm critters, neon lit carnival rides, multiple food vendors and endless stands of games!
Other activities involved agricultural and 4-H exhibits, home and gardening competitions and a ton of entertainment including pig races, dog shows, stunt shows and live music!
Moving over to politics, local New Jerseyian and former Daily Show host Jon Stewart celebrated in Long Beach Island this weekend, in regards of the 9/11 bill being passed!
The comedian took to Congress last month with first responders in support of the bill, which replenishes funds for the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks with billions of dollars over the next decade.
President Trump officially signed the bill to be passed last week. Stewart decided to hit up the Thundering Surf Water Park in Beach Haven for a little summer fun and celebration! He was also spotted at Scojo’s Eatery in Surf City.
