Our Weekend Recap Kicks Off in Rio

Our Weekend Recap Kicks Off in Rio

Cheers to the weekend! August may be the Sunday of summer, but that’s no reason to keep the good times from rolling. #HipNJ is dedicated to bringing you round-the-clock coverage of everything going on #NJ-related. Here’s what went down this weekend in our weekend recap.

Friday, August 5th

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games kicked off in Rio de Janeiro on Friday with a huge opening ceremony that paid tribute to the history of Brazil’s rich culture and climate change. Up to 11,000 athletes from 206 countries marched into the arena. Of those included the 31 NJ-native American athletes. Check out non-stop coverage of the games until August 21st and see them show the entire world what the #GardenState is made of.

iPic, Bergen County’s first dine-in movie theatre located in Fort Lee, opened to the public on Friday. The theatre is the first of its kind in that it’s a bit more upscale than traditional movie theatres. The meals offered are prepared by top-tier chefs and are finger foods for the most part. Ticket options include Premium, which grants a customer soft leather seating and personal pull-out tables, and Premium Plus, which allows customers a personal two or three-person pod with reclining seats, waiter service and unlimited popcorn. Yum! Premium tickets are $19 while Premium Plus tickets are $27. There’s only eight screens and 528 seats, so make your reservation today!

Asbury Park was the place to be on Saturday as Grammy-nominated folk rock band The Lumineers took the stage right on the boardwalk at the Stone Pony Summer Stage.

In what seemed like a follow-up to Taylor Swift’s NJ wedding crash earlier this summer, Steven Van Zandt made a surprise appearance and joined The Infernos Band on stage at a Florham Park wedding. Van Zandt is a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and is also known for his acting career which includes a starring role in The Sopranos.

Music legend Paul McCartney made a stop at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford as part of his One on One Tour. There’s no telling of when the 74-year-old will stop blessing us with live renditions of his own material and The Beatle’s tunes. So we’re just going to let it be.

Jude. About to see the original. Hey Jude. #mum #paulmccartney

Fifth Harmony took the stage in Camden this weekend at the BB&T Pavilion on The 7/27 Tour. Don’t you wish working from home was as fun as this girl group makes it sound?

Last night was so amazing??
