WFAN’s “True Blue” Celebrity Softball Game

WFAN’s “True Blue” Celebrity Softball Game

Hip New Jersey attended WFAN’s Boomer and Carton’s True Blue charity softball game. Over 17,000 fans packed Yankee Stadium to help support the NYPD and the families of slain officers Rafael Ramos, Wenjian Lou, and Brian Moore.

With four games of three innings each, Boomer and Carton’s event was successful in raising over $100,000. The proceeds went toward the families, the Silver Shield Foundation, and the New York PBA Widows’ and Children’s Fund. A roster of All-Star celebrities played the 1st, 84th, and 105th Precincts, and the Detective’s Endowment Association.

The emotional night began with the families of the slain officer’s throwing out the first pitch. Following, Jesse James Decker sung a moving National Anthem. Ten-year-old Texas native, Savannah Solis, also spoke about the importance of “thanking and loving” police officers.

#HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino had an opportunity to talk a few of the celebrities who came out to support the important cause. In attendance was #HipNJ resident and comedian Artie Lange, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, gold medal Olympian Sarah Hughes, Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan, and many more.

“It’s a great cause. We are supporting the real heroes that are out there,” says Rex Ryan.

Other celebrities and sports stars also present were New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker, Giants punter Steve Weatherford, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and baseball legends Joe Torre and Bernie Williams.

Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton with the partnership of the New York Yankees organization were overwhelmed by the amount of support they received. Celebrities were lining up to participate and support the NYPD.

Esiason says of the event, “We are so moved and broken-hearted by the whole thing.  We felt like we had our own microphones, we had millions of listeners, and that maybe we can inspire a community to come out and support the NYPD.”
